Our halau was established in 1980 under the direction of Kamalu Kaho`okele Kekahuna. Kumu Hula Kamalu was raised by her maternal grandparents David Kanaloa and Mary Ka`ohelani Adams Kaho`okele in Lower Nahiku, Maui. She studied under the late Kumu Hula John Pi`ilani Watkins. Kamani Ilikai is a Halau located at Mexico City. Founded at 2004 under the direction of Arturo Kamana'o Valero. I started my Hula instruction with Kumuhula Ray Kahikilaulani Fonseca and today I am under Debbie Leionalani Ryder. (Both Kumuhula uniki by uncle George Lanakilakekiahiali'i Naope.) I enforce my self and my haumana to keep the tradition of Kahikio: Oli, chants, and even at Auana. I constantly share e-mails of the knowledge I have earned during my hula instruction through Hula groups and also by workshops and lectures.
